'The Springsteen 6' - Bruce Springsteen's Best Albums

'‘Born to Run’ still wins hands down, ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ climbs up to second place, ‘The River’ comes third.' We present you the 'Springsteen 6', Bruce Springsteen's 6 best albums. A top 6 based on how often an album appears in a list, divided by the number of times the album could be listed, depending it's year of release. Please scroll further down for the U.S. top 6, the U.K. top 6, the Dutch top 4 and the Belgian top 3.....plus the Rolling Stone Magazine readers' poll (2012) and the MOJO Music Magazine 'How To Buy Bruce Springsteen' guide of 2014 (readers' poll) and 2003.

'The Springsteen 6'
1. Born to Run (1975): in 98 lists out of 137
2. Born in the U.S.A. (1984): in 53 lists out of 132
3. The River (1980): in 34 lists out of 134
4. Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978): in 20 lists out of 134
5. Working on a dream (2009): in 1 list out of 28
6. The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle (1973): in 5 lists out of 138

'Working on a dream' in fifth spot isn’t very realistic. Because it is  a rather new album and only appears in one list, the average score is relatively high. It would be reasonable to leave ‘Working on a dream’ out, and add ‘Nebraska’ to the list. ‘Nebraska’ charts in 4 out of 133 possible lists.

The U.S.A. Springsteen 6
1. Born to Run (1975): 21/27
2. Born in the U.S.A. (1984): 12/26
3. Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978): 8/26
4. The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle (1973): 5/27
6. ‘The River’ (1980) and ‘Nebraska’ : both in 3 out of 26 lists

Because of the release of Bruce Springsteen’s album ‘Wrecking Ball’ in March 2012, Rolling Stone Magazine polled their readers later that month to figure out what their favourite Bruce Springsteen albums are.

Rolling Stone Readers' Poll: Ten Favorite Bruce Springsteen Albums (March 2012)
1. Born to Run (1975)
2. Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978)
3. The River (1980)
4. The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle (1973)
5. Nebraska (1982)
6. Born in the U.S.A. (1984)
7. Tunnel of Love (1987)
8. The Rising (2002)
9. Wrecking Ball (2012)
10. Magic (2007)

It is expected that mostly real Springsteen fans will respond to such a poll. ‘Born in the U.S.A.‘ seems to be less popular among the fans. The popularity of ‘Born in the U.S.A.' in our top 6 is possibly caused by the fact that the album was Bruce Springsteen’s commercial breakthrough, it was the best selling album of 1985 in the United States. For most worldwide it was the first introduction to Bruce Springsteen’s work.

The U.K. Springsteen 6
1. Born to Run (1975): 21/31
2. Born in the U.S.A. (1984): 8/27
3. Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978): 6/29
4. Working on a dream (2009): 1/5
5. Tunnel of Love (1987): 2/26
6. The River (1980): 2/29

Here again it would be realistic to leave out ‘Working on a dream’ and add ‘Nebraska’ to the list. 'Nebraska' appears in 1 out of 26 possible lists.

In April/May 2014, MOJO Music Magazine polled their readers for their 10 favourite Springsteen albums. The results were published May 2014 in the July issue of the magazine (issue 248).
